Den norske Forfatterforening deler hvert år ut Ytringsfrihetsprisen. Prisen tildeles en forfatter som har gjort en fremragende innsats for å fremme ytringsfrihet og toleranse i vid forstand. Beløpet er 200.000 kroner.
Bakgrunnen for prisen er feiringen av DnFs 100-årsjubileum i 1993, hvor Det Kongelige Norske Kulturdepartementet overrakte oss en unik gave; en årlig Ytringsfrihetspris. Vinneren kåres av styret i DnF, etter anbefaling fra vårt internasjonale utvalg, og prisen deles ut på årmøtet i mars.
I 2024 har Ytringsfrihetsprisen blitt delt ut i tretti år, og vi ønsker å bruke dette jubileet som en anledning til å minnes de tidligere vinnerne og få innsikt i dagens situasjon i deres land. Vi ønsker å gjøre det ved å publisere en serie intervjuer med de tidligere vinnerne, samt nyskrevne tekster om tidligere vinnere, på nettsiden vår gjennom hele 2024.

I must say that , being deemed worthy of such a prestigious award has, above all, increased my responsibilities, as the award is also a reference point for me to keep the bar always high and face all the challenges no matter what sort, as is required in every endeavour I am in.

Every year The Norwegian Authors’ Union presents the Freedom of Expression Prize. The prize is awarded to an author who has made outstanding efforts to promote freedom of expression and tolerance in the very broadest sense. The amount is NOK 200.000.
The background for the prize is the celebration of the Norwegian Authors Union’s 100th Anniversary in 1993, where The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Culture Affairs presented us with a unique gift; an annual Freedom of Expression Prize. The winner is selected by the Board of the Norwegian Authors’ Union, after a recommendation from our International committee, and the award is presented at our annual general assembly in March.
In 2024 the Freedom of Expression Prize has been awarded for thirty years, and we wish to use this anniversary as an occasion to commemorate the previous winners and gain some insight into the current situation in their countries. We wish to do so by publishing a series of interviews with the previous winners, as well as newly written texts about previous winners, on our website throughout 2024.
